We'll warn you ahead of time that these are labeled EVT1 for "engineering verification test" and date back to the April leak, so they're about as early as you can get -- don't expect the final handset to arrive without some significant differences. Perhaps that's why Sanyo is positioning its Flip competitor as a "dual camera" -- capable of capturing 10 megapixel stills or 1080P/30fps MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 video with stereo audio. Model VPC-PD2BK features an integrated USB jack that swivels out for some hot laptop mating sessions, a 3X optical zoom, 37-mm wide-angle lens, mini-HDMI port, and support for SD/SDHC/SDXC memory cards. Look for it in September with a suggest price of $169.99 in North America.

Continue reading Sanyo Xacti VPC-PD2BK 1080P pocket camcorder with 3x optical zoom
source: engadget feed

Ricoh's 10 megapixel, 10x zoom CX4 compact hits Japan next month

Why, it seems like just yesterday we were talking about the CX3 and now here we are, but a few weeks away from the release of Ricoh's CX4. The camera is set to hit Japanese retailers on September 3, offering a 10 megapixel backside-illuminated sensor perched behind a 10.7x (28 - 300mm) zoom lens, with a three-inch LCD 'round the back. Ricoh is also talking up an advanced new image stabilization system, five fps burst shooting, 720p video recording, plus all the smile- and scene-detection modes you'd expect out of a modern shooter. MSRP for all this is set at 45,000 Yen in Japan, which equates to about 525 of your American dollars.

sources: engadget feed, akihabara news

Sony replacing handset cabling with a single copper wire

Sure, it's just boring ol' component news but you can guarantee that this advance will affect the appearance of Sony (and Sony Ericsson) products some time soon. Sony just announced the development of a "single wire interface technology" that replaces the 22 or so cables (used for power, control signals, audio, video, etc) typically found inside mobile devices (tucked away in the hinge or rotating parts) with a single copper wire capable of transmitting data at 940Mbps. That should translate into greater reliability while giving Sony's product teams more flexibility with their designs. Sony plans to "swiftly" implement the technology by licensing the IP to ROHM to help jointly develop the required silicon. More with less, as they say.

sources: engadget feed, sony

Managing Facebook and Twitter updates with the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10

When you look at the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10, the first thing that will grab your attention is its large 4in screen.

The screen dominates the front of the smartphone and is capable of displaying beautiful and vivid pictures.

The X10 runs on Android 1.6 which is a tad older than other smartphones in the market which use Android 2.1.

I'm really new when it comes to the Android operating system or even smartphones so it took awhile to adapt to the user interface. If you're looking for a phone that will fit all of your needs, then the Apple iPhone 4 is the perfect choice for you, and will surely offer hours upon hours of entertainment and enjoyment.

-Chris Westley-

New Apple iPod Touch Will Borrow Features from iPhone 4

After Apple iPhone 4, it is time for Apple iPod Touch. Every year at September, Apple releases a new version of Apple iPod touch. If that is true, then Apple would launch a new iPod Touch this September. As per news reports, the new Apple iPod Touch will be launched in the U.K.
At a company event titled “Xmas in July” which focused on the holiday-shopping season in London this week, Rob Hennessy, an audio and telecom buyer for U.K. retail giant, John Lewis, said that the updated iPod Touch will be launched in September and it will be aimed at teens and kids.

Rob Hennessy said that the new Apple iPod Touch would be heavily inspired from iPhone4 which was unveiled by Steve Jobs at Apple World Wide Developers’ Conference on June 7, 2010.

The new iPod Touch will come with a new and more improved 5-megapixel camera which can even record video in HD format, accelerometer and gyroscope that means users can now play games on the iPod touch. Screens that rotate in realtime; YouTube videos displayed perfectly on the screen; text message conversations shown in easy-to-read, never-before-seen ‘bubble’ format; Windows-like icons located conveniently on the home screen for apps and webpage shortcuts; all of this and lots more can be a lot for a new iPhone user to take in.

And that’s exactly Apple’s gameplay, to jam-pack every feature that users want in a mobile phone—even some they would never think off—so as to (a) enthrall him or her into becoming a life-long Apple fan and (b) ensure that they never pick up another mobile phone ever again. It’s worked flawlessly since the release of the first iPhone in 2007, and, with the way things are looking, will continue to work long into the future.

What makes the Apple iPhone 4 so technologically advanced?

The new iPhone’s recently strengthened prowess in the mobile phone business is reliant on not one, not two, but a slew of advanced features. Apple’s smartphone is the only mobile phone in its class to incorporate such a vast array of applications, ranging from motion-detecting games to video conferencing. Its new and improved screen is the topic of many discussions in Internet forums and mobile phone shops, what with its 640x960 resolution and stunning clarity and visuals. Among the new features is Apple’s decision to set 720p as the phone’s native video resolution, and also setting its default file type as H.264, the new standard in HD. The Apple iPhone 4 is one of the few phones to have this feature, and sets the stage for a coming surge of HD-ready mobile phones in the near future. The phone’s Safari web browser was included in the massive overhaul, and glides through websites seamlessly, regardless of Flash or Java content, thanks to its updated 1 GHz processor, a step up from the 3GS’s 412 MHz. And one of the most impressive, most innovative features to be seen in a mobile phone yet, Apple has decided to set no limits to how many apps one can install on his or her phone, making the possibilities limitless.

In Retrospect

The Apple iPhone 4 is a technological wonder—there’s no doubt about it. Every new version of the phone never fails to leave fans and new and old customers in awe, baffled at the new features and cutting-edge technology. But it’s no wonder at all why Apple is the leading mobile phone company today: they have passion, desire, and a drive to be the best.

-Chris Westley-

iPod Games: Michael Jackson Quiz

Think you know all there is to know about MJ? This can be accessed through the menu and footage can be recorded in landscape or portrait. Sound will be captured too through the built-in microphone and sound is played when you view your footage back.

There are also 15 video effects so you can create a personal touch to your footage such as X-Ray or Sepia for example. When you connect your Nano 5G to your PC or Mac your footage is automatically sync'd so it is uploaded and saved, from there it can be transferred to your favorite networking sites to share with family and friends.

The Genius feature is, well, Genius. It will create a play list of songs that go well together and save them to play later or play straight away. The FM Radio +Live Pause features is really cool too. You can pause Live Radio and catch up again when your ready and will even let you rewind up to 15 minutes so you don't miss a thing.

Performance :

Apple sets a high standard with the high quality of their products so naturally you expect great things. Unfortunately, with the new camcorder addition, its not all that great. We love the fact that its on an MP3 player and great for those youngsters who love to upload silly clips etc to YouTube but with the poor sound quality and washed out colours when filming outside it is not best to throw out your camcorders just yet! Initially released in October 2001, the iPod was easy to use and included a large hard drive which had an incredibly large storage capacity compared with the flash media based players of the time. Suddenly, rather than just being able to store a couple of albums on their media player, users were given the ability to store thousands of songs on a device small enough to fit in the pocket.

Over the years the line has been revised several times with the largest commercial available iPod created topping out at a 160GB storage capacity which is enough to hold around 40,000 songs. The current series of iPod touch units feature a touch sensitive colour screen, motion sensor, Wi-Fi and a more realistic maximum 64GB of storage.

Presently Apple claim to dominate the portable music device market with a 73% market share, having sold over 210 million units to date. On top of the revenue generated by the sale of hardware, there is also the huge revenue generated by iTunes which is the associated song download site for the iPod. Having signed the five major record companies up to its service, iTunes boasted total sales figures of over 6 billion songs at the beginning of this year. The service now also offers video content such as TV shows and movies for users of newer machines.

The most interesting point to note is the halo effect that has occurred with other areas of the Apple business following cultural acceptance of the iPod as a 'cool' piece of technology. Users appear to have subscribed to the Apple brand and very few analysts would deny that the tremendous uptake of the iPod has had a positive effect on other areas of the business.

The most notable spin off has been the Apple iPhone which since its release in June 2007 has sold over 21 million units. Although we cannot attribute the high number of sales directly to the iPod, there are strong similarities between the two devices in terms of design and desirability.

If we look at the Apple Mac computer, suddenly it has been accepted as a sexy alternative to the boring PC. The market share is still at a relatively small 11% worldwide however this compares favourably with the 4.1% figure that was circulating back in 2001.

I think it is fair to surmise that Apples current good fortune in recent years is predominately down to the new found desirability that allows the products to command their high price tags. In order to ensure this status isn't lost tomorrow they will need to build on this momentum so that products of tomorrow remain more than simple items of technology, but rather objects of desire.

-Chris Holgate-

Fixing Your iPod

Now the Ipod nano is a single the greatest devices of this generation, and it does some great things, plays music, audio books, videos, movies, games, and shops your photos.

Its as close to an every thing product that we presently have, and each 12 months when they release a new 1 and each yr it just gets far better, but there is one more side of this gadget that most individuals don't believe about when their at their nearby electronics store paying for the Ipod.
This is truth that these iPods as good as they are, still do break from time to time, and you will then be in the position of needing to Fix your iPod. Now when it arrives to repairing your Ipod device there are alternatives out there, and obtaining your Ipod nano fixed is a great deal simpler than you may assume.

There are several excellent businesses on the internet that are in a position to Fix your iPod. To discover many of these firms all you require to do is go to Google and lookup the term "Fix your iPod" If you do this there should be several firms that are discovered that are able to aid you in your pursuit of the fixing of your Ipod nano.

Most of these businesses will provide a couple of solutions when it will come to becoming ready to Fix your iPod. The initial alternative most of these restoration services offer is a expert installation selection.

This would mean that you would require to mail your Ipod off to them, they would then diagnose it, and arrive up with a repair price and allow you know what the cost will be. They would then give you the alternative if you want to Fix your iPod or not. There is an additional alternative most of these organizations offer you this would be the choice to self-diagnose your personal Ipod device, that would necessarily mean that you require to know exactly what is incorrect with it, then with the details you get from your self-diagnosis you then would will need to buy the portion that you would require to Fix your iPod, and then they would ship the part to you and allow you set up it oneself, you typically can discover guides on the web that will inform you on how to put in the parts yourself, so if you have any technical know-how this may possibly be your greatest and lowest price wager.

When it comes to getting capable to http://www.podimus.com/, bear in mind you have two choices when you are outside your warranty with Apple or when the guarantee does cover the fix that you will will need.

You can add the new element required oneself, or you can mail your Ipod off to a Ipod touch restoration facility that will professionally install the component for you and they will be in a position to guarantee that your Ipod device will perform correctly right after the set up, I would say this is the safest bet out there, and then you do not need to be concerned about any damage to your Ipod device, when you are trying to fix it.

-John Johnson-

What is iPod Touch

The iPod Touch (stylized, trademarked, and marketed as iPod touch), is a portable media player, personal digital assistant, and Wi-Fi mobile platform designed and marketed by Apple Inc. It is the first iPod with wireless access to the iTunes Store, and also has access to Apple's App Store, enabling content to be purchased and downloaded directly on the device. To date, there have been six generations of the iPod Classic, as well as a spin-off (the iPod Photo) that was later re-integrated into the main Classic line. All generations use a 1.8-inch hard drive for storage.

The "Classic" retronym was introduced with the introduction of the sixth-generation iPod Classic on 5 September 2007; prior to this, an iPod Classic was simply referred to as an iPod.

On June 28, 2005, the iPod Photo was merged into the monochrome iPod line. The 30 GB model was dropped, and the 20 GB monochrome iPod received a color screen. The price for the 60 GB model was also dropped to US$399.

The iPod's operating system is stored on its dedicated storage medium. An additional NOR flash ROM chip (either 1 MB or 512 KB) contains a bootloader program that tells the device to load its OS from the storage medium. Each iPod also has 32 MB of RAM, although the 60 and 80 GB fifth generation, and the sixth generation models have 64 MB. A portion of the RAM is used to hold the iPod OS loaded from firmware, but the majority of it serves to cache songs from the storage medium. For example, an iPod could spin its hard disk up once and copy approximately 30 MB of upcoming songs into RAM, thus saving power by not requiring the drive to spin up for each song. Rockbox and iPodLinux offer open-source alternatives to the standard firmware and operating system, respectively. However, at the current time these are both unavailable for use with the 6th generation iPod Classic due to encryption used on the official firmware.

In March 2002, Apple added limited PDA-like functionality: text files can be displayed, while contacts and schedules can be viewed and synchronized with the host computer. Some built-in games are available, including Brick (a clone of Breakout), Parachute, Solitaire, and Music Quiz. A firmware update released in September 2006 brought some extra features to fifth generation iPods including adjustable screen brightness, gapless playback, and downloadable games (available for purchase from the iTunes Store).

What is iPod Nano

The iPod Nano (trademarked, marketed, and stylized as iPod nano) is a portable media player designed and marketed by Apple. The first model was announced at the Macworld Conference & Expo on January 11, 2005; the current third generation model, introduced on March 11, 2009, weighs 10.7 grams (0.38 oz).

The iPod Shuffle was announced at the same time as the Mac Mini. Like the iPod Shuffle, the Mac Mini is a scaled-down product which has been introduced at a lower price. These two products together can be seen as a conscious effort on the part of Apple management to target a lower-end market and increase visibility in the mass-market. Previously, the success of Apple's iPod and especially the iPod Mini had been chipping away at the inexpensive flash player market, causing flash players at the beginning of 2005 to account for less than half the market share they did in 2004. However, the original and Mini iPods were costly and the Shuffle was intended to make the iPod compete with mainstream players.

By April 2005, the end of Apple's second fiscal quarter, the iPod Shuffle had already proven itself to be a successful product for its manufacturer. Although Apple has chosen not to specify how many iPod Shuffles were sold in the product's first three months of existence, analysts at Piper Jaffray estimated that 1.8 million of the 5.3 million iPods sold in the second quarter were Shuffles. NPD Group estimates that the iPod Shuffle captured 43% of the flash-based music player market in February 2005, after only its second month of existence. By March 2005 the iPod Shuffle's market share had risen to 58%.

In September 2006, Apple CEO Steve Jobs announced during his keynote presentation on the "It's Showtime" Special Event, that until then, Apple had sold 10 million first generation iPod Shuffles.

PC World reported a problem with the first-generation iPod Shuffles ceasing normal function, only to flash orange and green lights and become unmountable. Since the Shuffle has no display, the owner can't read an error message or troubleshoot easily, requiring diagnosis by Apple service personnel. Flashing green and amber lights on the iPod Shuffle indicate that a generic "error" has occurred, according to Apple's documentation. If the device is still covered by warranty, Apple will replace it for free. This problem has also occurred on second generation iPod Shuffles.

On October 26, 2006, Apple released an iPod Shuffle Reset Utility that corrected this problem for some owners of first-generation iPod Shuffles. Then, in March 2007, an updated iPod Reset Utility was released which can also address similar problems with second-generation iPod Shuffles.

Unlike most other portable audio players, the iPod Shuffle's controls are situated on the packaged headphones. One will be unable to control the device unless they use either Apple headphones designed for the 3rd-generation Shuffle, or third-party headphones or adapters that must be licensed by Apple. The 3rd-generation iPod Shuffle's headphones contain a proprietary integrated circuit. Also, inline control adapters that were made by third-party companies for use with the iPhone and iPod are incompatible with the iPod Shuffle.

Several months after the Generation 3 release, several third-party companies, including Belkin and Scosche, released adaptors which can be used to add the controls to standard headphones.

Additionally, this headphone model has been criticized by many users for its inability to handle moisture. Despite Apple's claim, via video on their own website, that the shuffle is ideal for exercise, the control unit on the headphones will malfunction after exposure to moisture (i.e. perspiration).

What is iPod

The iPod is a portable media player designed and marketed by Apple and launched on October 23, 2001. As of June 2010, the product line-up includes the hard drive-based iPod Classic, the touchscreen iPod Touch, the video-capable iPod Nano, and the compact iPod Shuffle. Former iPod models include the iPod Mini and the spin-off iPod Photo (since reintegrated into the main iPod Classic line). iPod Classic models store media on an internal hard drive, while all other models use flash memory to enable their smaller size (the discontinued Mini used a Microdrive miniature hard drive). As with many other digital music players, iPods can also serve as external data storage devices. Storage capacity varies by model, ranging from 2 GB for the iPod Shuffle to 160 GB for the iPod Classic.

Apple's iTunes software can be used to transfer music to the devices from computers using certain versions of Apple Macintosh and Microsoft Windows operating systems. For users who choose not to use Apple's software or whose computers cannot run iTunes software, several open source alternatives to iTunes are also available. iTunes and its alternatives may also transfer photos, videos, games, contact information, e-mail settings, Web bookmarks, and calendars to iPod models supporting those features.

The iPod branding is also used for the media player applications included with the iPhone and iPad; the iPhone version is essentially a combination of the Music and Videos apps on the iPod Touch. Both devices can therefore function as iPods, but they are generally treated as separate products.

-wiki-

4H3V2GDF5CJQ
